tibetan me-long

The Tibetan Shamanic Mirror

This Tibetan Melong or 'Shamanic Mirror' is an ancient mystical
device that has far ranging applications. Its origin dates back 5000
years to the ancient pre-Buddhist era of the original Tibetan Bon
shamans, who were the astrologers, healers, soothsayers and magicians
of the nomadic inhabitants of the Tibetan plateau. When Buddhism
came to Tibet , many of these practices were absorbed into it giving
Tibetan Buddhism some of its distinctive qualities. Today the melong
is still used and worn by many lamas, astrologers and healers.

The booklet details these features of this Melong.

Tibetan Lea Metal is an alloy of 8 metals including gold, silver, copper, tin, etc. The ancient metallurgic process for combining these metals is a highly guarded secret that has been handed down through the ages in family lineages. Only a few of these families remain, now living in an area of the Indian Himalayas, where this melong has been made by the traditional process specially for Tibetan Astrology Australia. Lea metal has many qualities amongst which are its distinctive sheen, and the belief that when worn on the body the 8 metals of Lea impart a
beneficial influence to the health of the chest and abdominal organs,

Tibetan Geomancy and Sky Medicine

Melong has a special use in Tibetan Geomancy which is a branch of
Tibetan Astrology. Each person's life unfolds under patterns of the eight geomantic influences called Parkha. Each pattern shows eight influences, and melong is associated with the energy called Sky Medicine. Called Heavenly Doctor in the Chinese system of Feng Shui,
Sky Medicine, [Namen] is the foremost of the four 'greatly beneficial' geomantic influences. By activating this energy it is said that health improves, rest becomes more healing and thus life span increases

Wearing Melong on the body.

When wearing the melong on the body it is important to note that it has a convex and concave side. The convex side breaks up negative energy and dissipates it, thus protecting the wearer from outside influences when worn with this side facing outwards. This is especially useful to therapists practicing contact modalities such as massage, to assist in preventing the absorption of negative energies being released by the client, or by those whose work or other necessary environments imply contacting negative energies. The concave side increases any energy so we do not recommend using this except under supervision.

Melong Divination

The often used phrase for Melong is 'Ta mo pap se me long' meaning the 'Magical Mirror of Divination'. Ta mo is a special type of Tibetan divination practice, similar to using a crystal ball to access answers to questions, or to predict the future. As an astrological device it can be used in predicting the particular way in which an astrological configuration will work out for a person or situation. This prognostic function of melong can be developed through exercises to develop the 'inner eye'.

Other uses

There are many other uses of melong, for example using it to dispel
troublesome mind states: holding the melong at arms length in front
visualise the images and feelings leaving the mind and passing through the melong and appearing on the outer convex side where they become dissipated. Beside mentioning these interesting facets of the melong there are many deeply esoteric and magical functions requiring the use of melong that can only be learned through direct transmission from the masters of this device.
